A diary of a busy week at MS67Q (& a motivational speaker session today at 12:30PM)!

Monday – Wednesday: Classes resume after the winter break. Snow on the ground, spring around the corner, and the kids logged back onto their classes.

Thursday: Our students who had opted for in-person learning returned to the school building!

The masks could not hide the energy and the joy the kids felt as they got to see each other in person and even meeting some of their classmates in person for the first time!

The transition went pretty smoothly considering all the logistics that were involved in ensuring live-streaming of the classes to the remote learning students, making sure daily health checks were done, kids and teachers were socially distanced, devices were logged in and working…

Friday: Principal Annello and Assistant Principal Rizzo gave a detailed update and answered all the questions during the morning Coffee with Principal session with 8th grade families. Always appreciate their diligence and transparency.

Today (Friday) at 12:30PM – all students and school staff will join others from MS 158 and MS74 in engaging with a motivational speaker, Jonathan Sprinkles.

This event was sponsored by our PTA along with the other schools and is available for the parent community as well. Here’s Mr. Annello’s email to the school with the details:

“Dear MS 67 School Community,

We hope you are well, and it was an exciting return to in-person learning.  Tomorrow (Friday, February 26th) from 12:30pm-1:30pm our entire school community will be participating in a school-wide presentation from motivational speaker, Jonathan Sprinkles. The event is a Microsoft Teams Live Event. Jonathan Sprinkles is a famous and award-winning keynote speaker. Mr.Sprinkles has a gift for connecting with any audience, relating to them on a personal level, and inspiring them to bring out the best in themselves and the people around them.In-Person Students

  • Teachers laptops in our classrooms will be hooked up by Period 6 teachers to the Promethean Board, TV, or SMARTBoard so that the speaking presentation can be projected for the in-person students.  Students will view the presentation and then participate in a follow-up discussion and debrief beginning at 1:30pm with their period 7 teachers.

All-Remote Students

  • Students who are all-remote can view the presentation using the link below beginning at 12:30pm.  All-remote students should not report virtually to their period 6 classes and should instead using the link to access the presentation from 12:30pm-1:30pm. All-remote students should plan to join their regularly scheduled period 7 classes for a follow-up debrief and discussion. The link for the event is below and it can be copied and pasted into a separate browser:

After much wait and anticipation, in-person classes are starting up again for those students who opted in for in-person classes.

Important Announcement from Principal Annello re In Person Classes Resuming on 2/25/2021

Dear MS 67Q School Community,

We hope you are well.  As we celebrate Respect for All Week this week, below are a number of important announcement and updates:

Reopening for In-Person Learning Update

The return date for students who have chosen in-person learning is Thursday, February 25, 2021.  Students who have chosen all-remote learning (in cohort D) will remain all-remote.  We are working on the details and planning for how many days per week students will be able to return.  As you may recall, we were prepared for an in-person return (50% of the days) using Model 1B.  We are currently working to see if it is possible to bring back all blended students five days per week.  We will share more details as they become available, and we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of the members of our school community.  For students planning to return to in-person learning, parental consent for COVID-19 must be submitted prior to the return date.  In order to assist with our planning efforts, please finalize your decision about consent as soon as possible.  We will provide updates in the coming days and weeks as we move forward toward our return to in-person learning date.

Parental Consent for Weekly COVID-19 Testing for In-Person Students

Parental consent for in-school COVID-19 testing must be submitted for students expecting to return for in-person learning.  It is easiest and most efficient to submit parental consent through students’ NYC Schools Accounts.  If you have questions about NYC Schools Accounts, please reach out to our Jenny Cho, our Parent Coordinator, at xcho@schools.nyc.gov.Parental consent can also be submitted by scanning the completed consent form and emailing it to covidtest@ms67q.com.  Please note students will be placed in all-remote cohort D if parental consent is not submitted prior to the return of in-person learning.  The parental consent form can be found at the following link:

Black History Month, Respect for All Week, and Lunar New Year

From Principal Annello:

“Dear MS 67Q School Community,

We hope you are well.  The month of February and this week bring our instructional focus of creating and maintaining a supportive learning for all students even more to our attention.  We foster and promote an inclusive environment, and this week we celebrate Respect for All Week.  Please see below for our themed days aimed at promoting respect and unity among all members of our school community:

Monday, February 8th: School Spirit Day (Wear our school colors of navy blue and gold to demonstrate the unity within our school community)

Tuesday, February 9th: Acts of Kindness Day (Engage in act(s) of kindness toward others in our school community and at home)

Wednesday, February 10th: Upstander Day (Wear blue to show your support for putting an end to bullying and standing up to those that engage in bullying behaviors)

Thursday, February 11th: Diversity Day (Celebrate what makes you unique and show appreciation for the uniqueness of others- for example, wear the colors and traditional clothing of your heritage and culture).

If students would like to share pictures via email of their participation on one of the themed days, please email your pictures to a member of the Administrative Team, our Parent Coordinator Jenny Cho (xcho@schools.nyc.gov), or our Dean Michael Viruet (mviruet2@schools.nyc.gov).

In addition, we celebrate Black History Month throughout the month of February.  We recognize the achievements, accomplishments, and lasting impacts of Black Americans past and present.  Connections within units and lessons will be made, and we understand the importance of the unity and inclusion we are promoting within our school community expanding into our current society.

Lunar New Year will be celebrated this Friday, February 12.  We join with members of our school community who will be ringing in the Year of the Ox.  Also, please note there will be no remote teaching and learning this Friday, February 12.

Thank you for your continued support and efforts.

The MS 67Q Administrative Team”

Announcement re Return to In-Person Instructions 2.8.2021

From Principal Annello:

Dear MS 67Q School Community,

We hope you are well.  Attached to this email is a letter from Chancellor Carranza regarding the return to in-person learning of students in grades 6-8 and students at our school.

In order to assist with our planning efforts, please finalize your decision about consent as soon as possible using the following information:

Parental Consent for Weekly COVID-19 Testing for In-Person Students

We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.  Depending on our availability of devices (iPads, laptops, etc.) for individual students who are returning in-person, we may ask students to bring their own devices to school upon our return.  If your child has a device from our school or the DOE that was provided to them to work remotely, your child would be expected to bring the device when coming to school in-person.

We want to thank you for your patience, collaboration, and flexibility.  We look forward to sharing more details in the coming days and weeks about both all-remote and in-person learning moving forward.  A more extensive “Updates and Information” message will be sent later this evening.  .
